Party favours are a fun part of any celebration. Most guest enjoy receiving a party favour, especially during special occasions like Thanksgiving. These small gifts are mementos of special times spent with family and friends. They are souvenirs that remind people of a special event.
A party favour doesn’t always have to fit into a gift bag. They only need to tell the story of shared moments and treasured memories. You can always buy party favours, of course, but I think they hold more meaning for the recipients if they are hand-made.
My family loves party favours and I love making them, so each time we get together for a special occasion, like Thanksgiving, I try to come up with something new that will make them smile.
This time, I used some wood pumpkin ornaments from Dollar Tree to make party favours for Thanksgiving. Try this DIY for your next autumn get-together.

Wood Pumpkin Party Favours for Thanksgiving
Step 1: Wood Ornaments and Paper
I started with pumpkin shaped wood ornaments from Dollar Tree. My idea was to cover each ornament in fall-themed paper. Thanksgiving-themed wrapping paper would work here, too.
I had some fall-themed fabric that I picked up at Dollar Tree but I always think it’s easier to work with paper, rather than fabric, so I used my photocopier to print a few sheets onto standard printer paper. The pattern turned out a bit darker than the fabric but it still works.
Mushrooms have been a big decorating trend this year and I love this leaf and mushroom design.
Step 2: Cut and Glue Paper Onto Each Ornament
Cut the paper into 5 inch squares. I used a glue stick to apply glue onto the ornament shape and then placed it onto the paper. You could use Mod Podge for this, but I find I have less trouble with wrinkles when I use a different adhesive at this stage.
Step 3: Trim and Smooth Edges
After the paper is smoothed down, trim off the excess paper and smooth the edges. I find that an emery board works as well as sandpaper for removing excess paper and smoothing edges on small projects like this.
Check the edges to be sure the paper is properly secured, adding more glue stick, as necessary.
Step 4: Make Labels
It’s easy to make labels in Canva. I just picked a design I liked, added my own wording and resized them to fit onto my pumpkin ornaments. You could also freehand a greeting onto blank labels and add a fall sticker to decorate it.
Step 5: Seal with Mod Podge
After gluing the labels to each ornament, I coated the entire top surface with Mod Podge.
Step 6: Add Leaf Embellishment
I had some mini felt leaves in my stash and glued one to the top of each ornament as a decorative touch. If you can’t find these felt leaves, use any small decorative piece like the laser cut wood leaves you can get at Dollar Tree. You can paint the wood leaves, if you like or leave them plain.
Step 7: Wrap Treat and Attach to Pumpkin
I bought some treat-sized Kit Kat bars and wrapped each one in the same paper that I used on the front of the pumpkin. Then I used some two-sided tape to attach them to the back of the ornaments in the middle.
Final Result
The candy treats on the back of the pumpkins give them a bit of lift, they aren’t sitting flat on the plate. These party favours will add a hit of autumn colour to your Thanksgiving table or any fall gathering.
