Autumn is one of my favourite times of the year for crafting. That’s mainly because the colours of the season are my absolute favourites. This fall decor inspiration is courtesy of a piece I found at Dollarama that features 3 four inch wood leaves in autumn colours.

- 16″ long shelf or wood piece

- small sunflowers
- wood peg people
- hot glue
I found this decoration at Dollarama. I think it was made to be displayed flat but The wood pieces can stand on their own. I separated all of the pieces from the twine and saved the beads for another project. You could use tiered tray pieces for this. It would also look great using three different wood pieces.
This piece of wood was originally intended to be a hanging shelf. It’s approximately 16 inches long and 4 inches wide and I thought it would make a great base to display the wood pieces.
I covered the holes on each end with a piece of popsicle stick.
Next, I spaced out each leaf evenly across the base and glued them into place.
I just eyeballed the spacing. It doesn’t have to be exact as long as the pieces are more or less centred.
I’m embracing the neutral decor that’s popular this year, so I chose not to paint or stain the base and picked these small pale yellow sunflowers to add to my display.
I glued these flowers and leaves onto either end of the base so that they would be slightly elevated, but wasn’t entirely happy with this project yet.
That’s when I decided to make it into a riser. I had these wood peg people in my stash. They make great feet when used upside down. I glued one to each of the four corners where the holes are. Again, because I’m going with neutral, I didn’t feel the need to paint the base or the feet. You do whatever feels right for your decor scheme.
I recently bought a bunch of dried bunny tails at my local dollar store and am loving how they fit it with many of the projects I’m making this fall. I glued three on either side of the middle icon to form a small swag, arranging them so that one of the bunny tails on either side hangs over the front of the base.
I cut the stem short on another sunflower, as I needed it to lay flat so it wouldn’t hide the writing on the wood leaf, and glued in the middle of the bunny tails…
…along with two more of the leaves from the sunflower stem.
I love how this looks. It’s the perfect finishing touch to my fall riser display.
Use this riser on a bookshelf or mantle to decorate for Thanksgiving and throughout the fall season.
