Dollar stores always have a variety of wreath hangers on hand for every season. The fall ones I’ve seen recently have metal embellishments in various designs attached either near the top or on the hook itself. My idea was to take a plain metal hanger and add a 3D wood piece. I found a brown wreath hanger that I thought would compliment the embellishment I wanted to use.
If you have old wreath hangers on hand from other seasons, you can always give one a coat of spray paint to fit in with your fall decorating.
Here’s how to make a unique fall wreath hanger.

Supplies needed and my recommendations:
- plain metal wreath hanger (dollar store)
- Fix-All or other strong glue
- 4″ wood decor piece
- dried bunny tails
- mini felt leaf
- fall wreath
This printed wood pumpkin is from a set of four tiered tray pieces I found at Dollarama. They are about 3/4″ thick. Dried florals are big this year and most dollar stores have some variety or other in stock. I found these bunny tails at Dollarama. I trimmed the long stems on three of them to use instead of the usual flower decorations.
I hot glued the bunny tails just under the pumpkin stem and trimmed the excess.
I had some miniature felt leaves in my stash from a previous year and chose this oak leaf to glue over the top of the bunny tail stems. This has the double benefit of being decorative as well as hiding the cut ends of the stems, and the dot of glue that was used to hold them in place.
You will need a strong glue to attach the wood piece to the metal wreath hanger. I used some Fix-All Cement that I already had on hand but E-6000 or Super Glue will work as well. Apply the glue down the centre of the pumpkin and attach it about 2 inches from the top of the hanger. You want to make sure that your decoration doesn’t interfere with the opening and closing of the door.
I think this wreath hanger is pretty darn cute. It would be perfect hung on a front door under a covered porch.
Try this idea for other seasons, too. Check out these wreath hangers I made for Christmas.
Places You Can Hang a Wreath Indoors
Don’t overlook other places in your home where wreaths can be hung. Indeed, any room in your home can be enhanced with a wreath, whatever the season.
In An Entranceway
A wreath in your entranceway is a great way to welcome guests to your home and helps to fill what might otherwise be a bare space on your wall.
Over the Fireplace
The fireplace is a focal point in your home. The centre of the wall above the mantle is the perfect place to hang a seasonal wreath. It will create a centre of interest that can be seen from anywhere in the room.
In the Living Room
Hang a beautiful wreath on the wall above the sofa instead of art. A colourful wreath will pop against neutral walls and will be a welcome change from the ordinary.
A gallery wall would be a great place to incorporate a wreath, along with family pictures, artwork and other items you want to display.
In the Kitchen
While the kitchen is primarily a place of industry, there’s no reason why it shouldn’t also have the benefit of pretty decorations. Guests always seem to gravitate to the kitchen when they visit, so it should also be a welcoming space. Hang wreaths on kitchen cupboards or a window.
Displaying a wreath in a window has the added benefit of allowing it to be seen from the outside, as well.
In the Bedroom
Hanging a wreath in the bedroom is an easy way to refresh or enhance that room’s decor. Besides hanging one over the bed as a focal point, you can add wreaths to a closet door or use one to add charm to an ensuite or powder room.
