4 Easy Ways to Decorate Using Tall Vases

When we think about vases, we generally think about filling them with flowers or, sometimes, candles. I’ve always liked the tall glass cylinder vases you can find at dollar stores. They lend themselves to a lot of different decorating ideas. Over time, I’ve used these vases in a few different ways.

Try these 4 easy ways to decorate using tall vases.

Butterfly in a Tall Vase

Supplies Used and Recommendations:

Digging through my stash of faux florals produced two long green stems. I hot glued a butterfly onto the grassy stem and the second stem came topped by a pink daisy. The smallest flower stem will be added to the bottom of the vase.

I arranged the stems into the vase on top of a moss base so that the butterfly seems to be attracted to the flower. Then I dropped the short bunch of flowers in the same colour as the daisy, into the bottom of the vase to balance the arrangement. If you have a shorter cylinder vase, simply adjust the height of your greenery pieces.

This simple but elegant floral arrangement is perfect for spring and summer.

Springtime Lily-of-the-Valley Vase

Supplies Used and Recommendations:

This idea has been very popular on Pinterest. I used to live in an area where lily-of-the-valley were plentiful every spring. Besides the simple beauty of these flowers, I just loved their scent.

All I did was fill the bottom of the cylinder vase with white rocks, add water and arrange several long stems of the flowers into the vase. The small rocks hold the thin stems gently but firmly.

While the flowers in the picture are real, you can easily replicate this idea using faux lily-of-the-valley from Amazon. That way you can enjoy these spring flowers well into summer.

Summer Forest Mushroom Vase

Supplies Used and Recommendations:

The cylinder vase I used here has a 4″ wide opening, which allows for a small ceramic mushroom from Dollar Tree to fit inside. I layered some river rocks in the bottom of the vase and topped those with a layer of moss. Then I sat the mushroom on top of that and tucked some faux fern in beside it.

The butterflies you can find at dollar stores have soft plastic bodies, which makes it easy to stick a length of thin green floral wire into them. Trim the floral wire to the length desired and stick it down into the moss and rocks. Then bend the floral wire so that your butterfly hovers over top of the mushroom. Tall vases like this fit nicely into a corner on my bathroom counter. I love how this turned out. It will be sitting in my bathroom all summer long.

Fall Mushroom Vase

Supplies Used and Recommendations:

A 12" cylinder vase with a small ceramic mushroom sitting on a bed of green moss and accented with small orange flowers and a eucalyptus stem.

I don’t glue anything down in these cylinder vases, instead relying on the moss or stones and the sides of the vase to keep things in place. That way, I can reuse my tall vases for any season.

This fall decor piece was inspired by the same ceramic mushroom as the idea above. This time, it sits on a 3″ bed of moss. Then I paired it with a fall-coloured eucalyptus stem and some small orange flowers that coordinate well with the colour of the mushroom I chose.

These easy-to-do tall vase arrangements make me happy. You can play around with these idea using whatever faux or real florals you have on hand until you get a look you love.
