Christmas garlands are a decorating staple this time of year.  I really like the beaded garlands that have become popular over the past few years and already had one from Dollar Tree in my stash. It can be used on a Christmas tree, of course, but I wanted to add to it, so I could decorate my fireplace mantle with it.

Here’s how to decorate a Dollar Tree beaded Christmas garland with ornaments that can be easily changed out from one Christmas season to the next.

Supplies Used and Recommendations:

I’ve had these flat, glittery reindeers in my Christmas stash for a long while and thought they need more colour. My idea is to give each of them pine collars with coloured bells.

Step 1: Remove Original Bells

The gold bells are tied on with a thin piece of wire that you can easily twist open and remove.

Step 2: Thread Two Bells Onto Wire

Then I used the same wire to replace the three gold bells with two small red bells that are slightly larger. Use whatever colour of bell you like.

Step 3: Cut Wired Pine Stems

I cut a piece of wired pine about 4 inches long for each reindeer…

Step 4: Twist Bells Onto Pine Stems

…and used the wire with the bells to tie the bells onto the middle of the wired pine piece.

Step 5: Wrap Pine Around Reindeer’s Neck

Then I wrapped the pine around the neck of the reindeer. I didn’t feel the need to use glue, as the wire holds its shape. You can use these ornaments on the tree but I decided to turn them into a garland for my fireplace.

Step 6: Add Ornament Hangers to Reindeer, Large Bells and Snowflakes

Attach small ornament hangers to each ornament.

I chose these small snowflakes and larger bells to add to the reindeer garland, as a way to fill in the spaces between the reindeer.

Then I strung the beaded garland across the mantle and added the bells and snowflakes to it, spacing them out  between each reindeer.

The red bells match the bells on the reindeer and add a bit more colour. Small ornaments would work, too.

You can customize this reindeer garland with any colour bells or ornaments you want and there’s nothing permanent about it. The wire hangers make the reindeer and other ornaments easily removable and/or interchangeable. Next year, you may decide to use them on your tree or in a different craft project.

I’m quite pleased with how this reindeer garland turned out. It looks great against the background of my black fireplace.
