I had so much fun making beaded pens recently, that I started wondering what else I could craft with beads that didn’t involve the obvious jewelry making. As I’m into Easter crafting right now, I got playing around with some orange wood beads. If you’d like to make fun beaded carrots for Easter too, read on.

You will need a wood skewer, five orange beads of different sizes and one green barrel bead.

Most of the wood bead I had needed to to have their interiors cleared and/or enlarged, so they could fit on a skewer. I do that by using a mini Philips screwdriver and twisting it around on the inside and around both openings of the bead until it slides easily onto a skewer.

Slide the barrel bead onto the skewer first…

…and slide the orange beads on from the largest to the smallest.

I used some tacky glue to secure the top and bottom beads to hold everything in place. I like using tacky glue because it dries clear and I don’t need a strong hold in this case.

Then I just cut off the excess skewer at the top and bottom, using my wire cutters.

There was still some of the wood skewer poking out of the top, so I used an Exact-o knife to trim off the rest.

To hide the plain wood skewer in the centre of the end beads, I used green acrylic paint at the top of the “carrot” and orange at the bottom.

I love these cute little wood carrots!

You can use them as ornaments by adding a piece of ribbon around the bottom of the green bead.

Use could also use them as place cards by tying a label onto them using baker’s twine. I’d love to hear your ideas for using these mini wood carrots.
