The thought of warmer weather always inspires me to create. Dollar Tree stores are full of spring things now and, naturally, I brought a few of them home with me. If you’re ready for warmer weather, welcome spring with these two easy signs.

Happy Spring Sign

This green sign is one I had in my stash. I like these ones from Dollar Tree because you can remove the backing like a picture frame. The circular design on the napkins had me thinking “sign” immediately I saw them.
The wood bunny is from a package of assorted pre-painted ones I found at Dollarama and the butterfly laser cut wood shapes can be found at Dollar Tree. I had painted this one for another idea, but never used it.
Step 1: Paint Backing of Sign

Naturally, the first thing to do is to remove the frame’s backing and paint over the existing lettering. I used two coats of white acrylic paint.
Step 2: Prepare Napkin

I cut out one square of the 2-ply napkin and separated the top layer from the bottom one.
Step 3: Use Glue Stick to Attach Napkin

I was going to use Mod Podge for this but ended up just using a glue stick on the painted surface. I found I avoided wrinkles in the napkin that way.

Then, I positioned the pattern in the centre of the backing. Using a glue stick gave me the ability to carefully reposition the napkin, as needed. Then I carefully smoothed it with my fingers.
Step 4: Trim Edges of Napkin

To trim the excess napkin, I used an emery board I had on hand. A small piece of sandpaper would work, as well. You just drag it in a downward motion along the edges of the sign and the overhanging pieces come away easily.

After replacing the backing into the frame, this is how it looks, so far. I love the way the colour of the frame complements the green in the napkin.
Step 5: Add Embellishments

I glued the wood bunny to the bottom, right-hand side of the frame. You can use hot glue, but I found that tacky glue holds these light pieces just as well.

The wood butterfly, which I had previously painted orange, was glued to the top left-hand side of the frame. The orange colour matches the same colour in the napkin.

Here’s the finished sign, hung on the wall.

You can also just sit in on a shelf or elevate it on a candleholder, as I’ve done here. I’m quite pleased with the way this sign turned out.
Hello Sunshine Sign

I liked this small wood sign with the scalloped edges that I found at Dollar Tree.
Step 1: Paint Wood Plaque

I gave it two coats of white acrylic paint.

I’ve never seen water bottle stickers before but I loved these raised floral stickers and new they would look great on my sign.

When I came across these wood word stickers, I knew I could make good use of them, too.
Step 2: Paint Wording

I painted the wood words “hello” and “sunshine” with daffodil yellow acrylic paint. I found one coat to be enough.
Step 3: Apply Stickers to Sign

After positioning the words on the sign, I added some of the floral stickers around them. I found it necessary to add a little extra glue to the back of the larger sticker.

I really like the way this little sign turned out. Bright and sunny, like a spring day!
