When I find a peel and stick wallpaper or a contact paper design that I really love, I want to be sure to make use of as much of it that I can. You may not think so, but there are a lot of things you can do with the smaller pieces.
Here’s what to do with leftover peel and stick wallpaper. Try these three different ideas for using up the bits and pieces of your favourite wallpaper and/or contact paper.

Idea 1: Make Coasters with Leftover Peel and Stick Wallpaper
Supplies Used and Recommendations:
- unfinished ceramic coasters
- leftover peel and stick wallpaper
- Mod Podge
- Dollar Tree crate (optional for coaster holder)
Step 1: Trace Coaster Shape onto Peel and Stick Wallpaper
This is one my favourite peel and stick wallpaper designs. Unfortunately, Dollar Tree stores near me don’t get a lot of wallpaper in stock. I bought several sheets of this pattern quite some time ago.
To make coasters, all you have to do is use one of the coasters to trace out as many pieces of peel and stick wallpaper as you need. I’m making a set of four coasters.
Step 2: Apply Peel ‘n Stick Wallpaper to Coasters
Remove the backing from each piece of wallpaper and smooth onto the ceramic coasters.
Step 3: Smooth Edges and Corners
I smoothed all of the edges using a sanding sponge. As the ceramic coasters have rounded corners, I paid special attention to each of them.
Step 4: Finish Coasters With Mod Podge
I wanted to ensure that my coasters would be resistant to moisture, so I covered each one with a layer of Mod Podge.
Step 5: Cover a Wood Crate With Leftover Peel and Stick Wallpaper
These wood crates from Dollar Tree make a great place to store a set of coasters. I had already stained this one inside and out using some watered down brown paint but didn’t use it at the time.
It won’t be necessary to paint or stain the outside of the crate if you intend to cover it with peel and stick wallpaper.
As I had enough pieces of peel and stick wallpaper left, I covered all sides of the crate with the same pattern as the coasters. This is optional, but I like the look of the wallpaper on the crate.

Idea 2: Butterfly Art Using Leftover Peel ‘n Stick
Supplies Used and Recommendations:
- three 4 x 4- inch frames (Dollar Tree)
- 3 fabric butterflies or other 2-D item
- contact paper or scrapbook paper
- scissors
- two-sided tape or glue dots
I really love these 4 x 4 frames. You can find them at Dollar Tree in a variety of colours. I chose these ones with the textured borders for this idea.
Step 1: Trace Frame Backings onto Peel ‘n Stick
This is one of the small pieces I had left from a large roll of contact paper from Dollarama. I used it to recover a small shelf unit in my bathroom, photocopied it to make a trivet for my kitchen and used it for seasonal decor in my home, too.
As this is one of my favourite patterns, I was reluctant to waste any of it. Hence, this art idea.
Use one of the frame backings to trace out three pieces of the contact paper or whatever paper you’re using. Place the piece of contact paper into the frame and replace the backing. I didn’t stick the contact paper to the backing. That way, I can reuse these frames for another project at a later time.
Step 2: Attach Butterflies to the Glass
I went into my stash of butterflies and chose three I thought would look good in these frames. Then I added a square of two-sided tape to the back of it…
…and positioned it right onto the glass in the centre.
I was quite pleased with how this trio of artwork turned out. You could try this idea using other light-weight three-dimensional objects, as well.
Idea 3: Leafy Wall Art
Another 4 x 4 frame from dollar Tree, this one finished with a faux wood grain. Similar to the previous art idea, I trimmed down a piece of some peel and stick wallpaper I had left over and put it in the frame. I’ve seen people do this using multiple frames to make a beautiful wall grouping. Unfortunately, I only had one frame and one small piece of wallpaper left, but it still makes for a pretty piece of art.
Let me know what other ideas you can think of for using up small pieces of peel and stick wallpaper.
