The rolling pin I bought at Dollarama had a label wrapped around the middle. When removed, it revealed a knot in the wood, which of course, made it unusable for its intended purpose. You know the old saying, “When life gives you lemons…” So, the crafter in me went to work to make something decorative for the kitchen instead, using supplies I already had on hand.

Any old or damaged rolling pin can be decorated using wall stickers to give it new life as decor in your kitchen. Any wood rolling pin will do, new or old. You may even find one at a thrift store that could use a little TLC.

Supplies Used and Recommendations:

This dollar store rolling pin was “knot” usable for its intended purpose.

Step 1: Paint Rolling Pin

I painted the handles of this rolling pin red, for sentimental reasons. Red was the colour of the handles on my mom’s old rolling pin. Choose whatever colour suits your kitchen decor.

The middle of the rolling pin got two coats of white acrylic paint to provide a base for the wall stickers I had on hand.

Step 2: Apply Wall Stickers to Rolling Pin

The stickers I had are in a grey tone, but some colourful ones would look great, too.

There were separate butterfly stickers in this set, so I used one to disguise the knot in the wood and distributed the rest around the words.

Step 3: Seal Rolling Pin Design With Mod Podge

After applying the wall stickers where I wanted them, I elevated the rolling pin between two stacks of books to make it easier to apply the sealant.

I used a foam brush to apply Mod Podge to the entire middle of the rolling pin and let it dry.

I’m displaying the rolling pin on my stove. It sits neatly in the gap between the stove and the wall. You could also mount a rolling pin on the wall by using two large Command hooks to support the handles. This is a great way to decorate a rolling pin you’re not using any more. Besides stickers, a rolling pin would look great covered with fabric or you could also decoupage it using a pretty napkin or tissue paper pattern.
