Using a Garden Cloche Indoors
I love working with cloches but, lately, I haven’t been able to find any of the small ones that I like at a dollar store. I’ve often noticed garden cloches, also called bell cloches, at the dollar store. This year I saw two different sizes at Dollarama. The larger one is about 12-inches tall and 13″ round at the base and I was inspired use it to make an indoor decoration for spring and summer.
Supplies Used:
- large bell cloche, 13″ tall (Dollarama)
- wood grain look charger plate (Dollar Tree)
- squirrel garden figure (on hand)
- large ceramic mushroom (Dollarama)
- fairy garden mushroom (Dollar Tree)
- moss (I used sheet moss) and moss balls (on hand)
- boxwood ball
- 4 1/2 – inch glass candlestick (on hand)
Use whatever garden pieces and supplies you have on hand. You might like to make a fairy garden scene in your cloche, instead of what I’ve done. Dollar Tree has a smaller version of the ceramic mushroom and, earlier this year, I also saw the smaller bell cloches there.
The large bell cloche sits perfectly on the charger plate. As it had been sitting on a store shelf, I gave it a quick wash before using. It’s not very sturdy, so I had to be careful not to crack the plastic.
I chose a glass candlestick for this project, because I don’t want it to be a focal point of my decoration but needed to give the boxwood greenery some height.
I began by placing the three largest pieces on the charger plate, arranging them to the best advantage. The little garden squirrel has been spray painted white. It was originally from Dollarama.
Next I placed the sheet moss around the main elements and added three moss balls at the base of the candlestick.
Next, I added the small mushroom beside the larger one…
…and a couple of large rocks in two places as a finishing touch.
I like the way my large cloche turned out. It makes a cute display on my hall table.
