Upgrade a Simple Sign for a High-End Look
It’s not hard to upgrade a simple sign to give it a more high-end look. A small 4 x 4 sign caught my attention while I was at Dollar Tree and I thought it was perfect for a makeover.
Supplies Used: (All from Dollar Tree unless otherwise stated)
- 4×4 message sign
- small roll printed vinyl
- greenery and flowers (on hand)
- one tumbling tower block
- 7 1/2 – inch oval plank (Dollarama)
- 4 small wood cubes
This is the original sign. Picture it without the floral embellishment. That was something I added for a different project that didn’t quite work out. I left it on the frame as I was sure it would suit this new idea.
I love the sentiment on this. The world could use a little more kindness, don’t you think?
I used my blowdryer to loosen the glue that held the little raised sign in place.
I wanted to replace the backing, but needed something that wouldn’t overwhelm the sign. Fortunately, I happened upon this roll of peel-and-stick printed vinyl at Dollar Tree. The pale green leaf pattern was perfect for my needs.
The vinyl wasn’t quite wide enough to fit the frame, but the pattern is random, so the seam where I added the extra strip is hardly noticeable. The tumbling tower block will be used to elevate the sign.
I also wanted to add a bit of greenery to the sign. This is one option. I found some rub-on leaf transfers at Dollar Tree after I’d finished this project, that would have been perfect for adding a bit of colour to this little sign. Oh well! I’ll have the transfers for future projects.
I decided I wanted to give my sign a pedestal. The oval wood shape was found at Dollarama, and the small wood cubes I used as legs, are from Dollar Tree. I used hot glue here and to attach the sign to the top.
I’m very happy with the finished piece. You can paint the base, if you like, but I decided to leave it plain. The greenery ended up in a top corner but you do you.
