Fairy Garden in a Lantern

Summer is prime time for fairy gardens and I’m a big fan. Every year, Dollar Tree stocks a large assortment of cute fairy houses and accessories and I always pick up a couple more to add to my growing miniatures collection.

Then, I had to think about how I was going to use them. I decided to create a miniature fairy garden scene in a lantern I already had on hand. When completed, you can light your lantern using either a push light, string lights, or both!

I made this lantern a couple of years ago. It’s perfect to dress up for any season. Click the link to see how I made it.

Step 1: Cut a Piece of Artificial Turf to Fit in the Lantern

I had some of this peel ‘n stick artificial turf in my stash and cut a piece of it to use as a base for my fairy garden

I just had to trim the turf down so that it fit nicely into the base of the lantern. It fit so snuggly that I didn’t even have to use the peel and stick feature.

Step 2: Choose Fairy Garden Pieces

These fairy garden pieces are all from Dollar Tree. The rabbit and stone pathway were bought in previous years.

Step 3: Attach a Puck Light

Before I put the fairy garden in the bottom of the lantern, I decided to add a push light to the top of the lantern, so I could light up the scene if I chose too. (Yeah, I forgot to spray paint the underside when I was making this.)

Step 4: Arrange Fairy Garden Pieces in Lantern

Arrange your fairy garden pieces on the artificial turf. You can add a dab of hot glue to any of the smaller pieces that won’t otherwise stay upright.

This is how my fairy garden looks with the push light on. I could have left it at that, but…

Step 5: Add Optional Bee String Lights

…I had some cute bee string lights that I thought would be a nice addition. I simply added a small dot of hot glue to the back of each bee and glued them all around the top of the lantern,…

…gluing the last of the bees down one side…

…and around the front of the lantern.

I think this summer lantern will make an adorable addition to my indoor decor for the summer season. What do you think? Are the bees a good addition, or should I have found another use for them?
