Valentine’s Day Gift Ideas
It’s easy to throw money at a holiday or other special occasion, but giving something you’ve put a bit of time and thought into can mean just as much, perhaps more than anything you could buy. All you need are the right materials and a little time.
Here are three Valentine’s Day gift ideas using craft supplies from the dollar store that are as easy to do as falling in love.
Gussy up an inexpensive vase with a bit of ribbon and a rhinestone heart to make it the perfect receptacle for a Valentine bouquet. This shapely white vase lends itself to the idea of draping the ribbon around the vase on an angle and overlapping the ends so they meet evenly at the front.
A couple of pieces of tape will hold the ribbon ends in place. Next choose a medium sized rhinestone heart to cover the ribbon ends, again using two-sided tape or a dab of hot glue to hold it in place.
Using tape to hold trimmings in place means that you can easily make the same vase over for any occasion. You could try this idea with a clear glass vase, too.
We printed a portion of the famous poem by Elizabeth Barrett Browning in red on white card stock and highlighted it with six glitter heart stickers. Then we added Valentine ribbon to the white frame, beveling the edges so they meet at the seams in the corners of the frame.
An easy gift idea is to outfit an ordinary chocolate bar in a sleeve of appropriately colored scrapbook paper. This pale pink striped scrapbook paper makes a subdued background for the see-through red ribbon that was wrapped length-wise around the chocolate bar and trimmed with three puffy heart stickers. To give the gift a little sparkle, add small glittery heart stickers to the center of each large heart.
The ribbon holds the chocolate bar in the sleeve, so there’s no need to tape the ends shut unless, of course, you use a regular wrapping paper, instead of the stiffer scrapbook paper.
With the many Valentine craft supplies available at dollar stores, you shouldn’t have any trouble coming up with your own unique Valentine’s Day gift ideas to convey your love in a very personal way.
